If we're addicted to oil ...?

Everyday it seems like I see new reports on how auto companies and the like are stepping up research and production on electric cars, etc. There is an upside to this gas and oil dilemma and that is they are getting serious about alternatives to oil. The ones that are successful in this will make huge profits when they come up with a good alternative. This will speed up the process and we will eventually move away from oil and all the polution involved in using it. We just have to get through the rough spots in order to get there.
