What do you think should be my aquarium cleaning schedule?

I have a 10 gallon tank with only one fish left in there, but because of how dirty it is and just the fact that I've left the decorations in there for about a year I think I'm going to do a full aquarium renovation. Now, during this time what do you think I do with the small tetra? I don't think leaving it in while I change the gravel would be a good idea. And also, after I do the mive tank reno., what do you think my usual schedule for cleaning would be? (That includes gravel siphoning, scraping the walls and changing the filter cartrige)
