Why is society so selfish?

Why are people so selfish in society? Why is it that people care more about getting their money in, than saying 'hello, how are you?' to their neighbor? I'm seeing so many young people getting stabbed, nobody care. I'm seeing so many young women getting pregnant...nobody care. Is it naive for me to believe that one day we can get a day of peace if we work for it? I am 16 now, soon to be 17, and I have got a lot of friends who smoke weed. I have smoked weed too, and I do enjoy the occasional (only at parties, once every two months or so) inhalation of weed. But now it seems that weed is now the source of money, which turns to power which will bring enemies. This starts by the people in power not putting enough effort to stop this cycle of drug supply in the streets. the government don't care about us. I'm a 16 year old black male living in London and honestly I am working so hard so that if I ever do get rich in the future, I can change things. Nobody listens to you when you are a nobody, so I have got to become a somebody. Until then, why doesn't the government try to stop this? We can stop terrorism, find saddam, find bin laden but we can't stop drug dealers? Tell me that the government is corrupt! HOW the hell do drugs get smuggled in anyway? through the army, don't believe that pro-army propaganda crap they feed you, the army is corrupt, they talk about building bridges in Iraq, but at what cost? why don't we build a bridge here, to mend the gaps between inequality and equality? why is it that I don't think half of my friends will see 21? Why do we invade other countries? Why is society so ignorant?
